Terry Wayne Montague, 79, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

Terry Wayne Montague was born August 21, 1942 in Sullivan, MO, to Harry and Lurene (Spindler) Montague. He grew up and attended school in Sullivan and graduated from Sullivan High School, class of 1960. Terry was united in marriage to Vergie Collins on July 6, 1963 and together they had two children, Dewayne and Michelle. In his younger years, Terry used to drag race from the Stanton exit to the first Sullivan exit. One time, Terry was pulled over while racing in his 1964 Pontiac GTO and the officer told him that he was good at it, and as long as he won a race at the track in Pacific, he wouldn’t write him a ticket. Terry entered the next race a week later and won. His trophies were on display at the Derby Station in town for some time after.

Terry and Vergie raised their family in Sullivan while Terry worked at several places in town, including the Pea Ridge Mines and various construction jobs. However, Terry’s true passion was farming. He loved to tinker with things and was always finding something to work on.

If you knew Terry, you knew that he was a jokester and would always find a way to make you laugh or to simply bring a smile to your face. He will be so dearly missed and lovingly remembered by many.

Terry is survived by his daughter, Michelle Reed, of Sullivan, MO; a granddaughter, Reagan Reed of Sullivan, MO; a special nephew, Wayne Patrick Collins “Scooter” of Sullivan, MO; two brothers, Barry Williams and wife Christine of Sullivan, MO, and Mark Williams of Sullivan, MO; a sister, Sandy Pettet of Sullivan, MO; a brother in law, Wayne Collins of Sullivan, MO; other extended relatives and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vergie; a son, Dewayne Montague; and four sisters-in-law, Linda Voss. Sharon Nolie, Janet Miller and Ruth Collins.

Arrangements for cremation have taken place. A graveside service was held 4 p.m., Friday, October 29, 2021 in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Sullivan.

Online condolences may be shared with Terry’s family at www.eatonfuneralhome.com.

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Sullivan.
