Ransom Wright Dudley Sr., 86, affectionately known as Randy to his friends and loved ones, passed away at his home in Sullivan, MO, on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 surrounded by God and family.  He was born on June 4, 1937, in St. Louis, MO, to Ransom E. and B. Louise (Wright) Dudley.

Randy's early years were spent in Fulton, MO, where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Fulton High School in 1955. His sense of duty and love for his country led him to enter the US Marines in 1956, where he served honorably until his discharge in 1958. Randy's commitment to education was evident as he furthered his studies at Southeast Missouri State University, earning his Bachelor's degree in Education.

On April 20, 1963, Randy married the love of his life, Carolyn Ellis, in St. Louis, MO. Their loving union brought forth three wonderful children: Ransom Jr., Cynthia, and Clifton. The family became Randy's pride and joy, and he cherished every moment with them.

Randy's passion for teaching and coaching was a significant part of his life. He taught in various locations, including Fulton, Missouri, Illinois, and Florida, before settling in Sullivan in 1973. As a math teacher and coach at Sullivan High School, he influenced countless students until his retirement in 1993.  After retiring from teaching he continued working for the school system as a bus driver; a job he thoroughly enjoyed.  Randy was particularly passionate about coaching football and track & field. He was instrumental in establishing the girl’s track & field program at Sullivan High School, leaving a lasting legacy in the school's sports history.

Beyond his professional life, Randy was an active member of the Sullivan Kiwanis and St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. He believed in giving back to his community and did so with great enthusiasm.

Randy's interests were as varied as they were joyful. He loved fishing, golfing, and playing cards, often surrounded by close friends who shared his love for these pastimes. He took great pleasure in coaching his children in sports and was a devoted fan at his grandchildren's sporting events. In later years, Randy and Carolyn enjoyed spending winters in Texas with their “Winter Texan” friends.

A man of many talents, Randy enjoyed developing his carpentry skills and tinkering around the house. He believed in staying active and keeping fit, a practice he maintained throughout his life. Those who knew Randy will remember him as a friend to many and as someone who was fiercely protective of those he loved.

Randy is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; his children:  Cindy Carey and husband, Randy, Cliff Dudley and wife, Vivian; Alisa (Dudley) Brendel and husband, Ray all of Sullivan, MO; 8 grandchildren:  T.J.
