Norman Schmidt, age 88, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, MO. 

Stephen Norman Schmidt was born in Sullivan, MO, February 7, 1932, to Stephan and Goldie (Greenlee) Schmidt. Norman grew up and attended school in the Sullivan area, graduating with the class of 1951. He was drafted into the United States Army on September 9, 1952, in St. Louis. After his induction, he served in basic training at Camp Gordon. In February of 1953, he flew to Seattle, Washington, where he celebrated his 21st birthday and then boarded ship, which broke down and had to be towed to Honolulu, where he spent the night. He then boarded another ship called the “General Walker” to Japan. Then spent service time in Korea for thirteen months.

In the midst of his service, he married his first wife, Mildred, on December 27, 1952. To their union three children were born: Steve, Judy and Terry. For most of his working career, Norman hauled gravel and worked in excavating. Sadly, Mildred passed away in 1999. 

Later in life, Norman was united in marriage to Anita Pennock on August 16, 2001. Together, they enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and Branson, and also spending quality time on the farm. Norman was passionate about farming and his cattle and enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends at the Bobber Café. Norman and Anita shared many memories together. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by many. 

Norman is survived by his wife, Anita Schmidt, of Bourbon, MO; one son, Steve Schmidt and wife, Kathleen, of Leslie, MO; two daughters, Judy Schmidt and Terry Schmidt, both of Sullivan, MO; three step-children: LaDonna Hartwick and husband, Dennis, of Bourbon, MO, Martin Beckett and wife, Tricia, of Bourbon, MO, and Timothy Beckett and wife, Tracy, of Bourbon, MO; three grandchildren: Jeremiah Schmidt and wife, Trina, of Cedar Hill, MO, James Fore and wife, Jennifer, of Sullivan, MO, and Dustin Schmidt of Sullivan, MO; seven great-grandchildren: Preston, Jenna, Colton, Adam, Addison, Kasi and Dustin; six step grandchildren: Andrea, Erica, Ashley, Rolla, Karlie and Kameron; four step great-grandchildren: Drawe, Luna, Collin and Walker; a brother, Neil Schmidt and wife, Shirley, of Sullivan, MO; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred; an infant granddaughter, Sarah; and his parents, Stephan and Goldie Schmidt. 

Funeral Services were held 12 p.m., Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO, with Pastor Harold Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in Old Cave Spring Cemetery in Sullivan.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday, prior to the funeral service at Eaton Funeral Home.
