Michael C. McCoy

Michael Charles McCoy, 65, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Friday, February 4, 2022 at Missouri Baptist Hospital – Sullivan.

Mike was born on October 26, 1956 in Joplin, MO to Neal S. and Mary Ellen (Barnhart) McCoy. He attended Spring Bluff Grade School and Sullivan High School before joining the U.S. Navy at age 17 and earning his GED. He served his country from August 16, 1974 to August 16, 1978.

Mike married Lorri Kline and had one daughter, Rachelle. He worked as an apprentice lineman in his youth, and later as a counter person for Community Auto Parts. A motorcycle accident at the age of 24 led to irreparable damage to Mike’s right arm. Due to degenerative bone disease, he endured seven hip surgeries, but smiled through the pain and continued to enjoy activities such as hunting, fishing, spending time at the river, and target shooting. Mike charmed those who knew him with his authenticity and gentle nature. He wore his heart on his sleeve and always had a smile and a laugh for those around him. His sense of humor, genuine nature and kindness will be sorely missed.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Rachelle McCoy and her husband, Josh Hofstetter, of Austin, TX; one grandson, Owen Hofstetter; two brothers, Steve McCoy of Leslie, MO and Gary McCoy of Sullivan, MO; two sisters-in-law, Nicole and Karen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Mary McCoy; and one brother, Mark McCoy.

Mike donated his body to Washington University School of Medicine. A Memorial service, with full military honors, was held 6 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Pastor Brian Dixon officiating.

The McCoy family received friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, prior to the service at Eaton Funeral Home.
