Marvin Blackmore, 84, of Sullivan, MO, formerly of Effingham, IL, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.

Marvin Miles was born on August 26, 1937 in Los Angeles, CA, to the late Alvie Leroy and Gladys Donna (Peterson) Blackmore. He grew up in Long Beach, CA and attended and graduated from Lindbergh Middle School and Jordan High School. He attended Lincoln Bible Institute and Christ to the World Bible training school, earning an Associate’s Degree in Bible.

Marvin honorably served his country in the United States Navy from January 28, 1955 to August 25, 1959. He was united in marriage to Barbara Lambert on October 27, 1956 and five children were born: Robyn, Doris Tim, John and Lynda. Marvin later married Delores Gruenewald on March 21, 1975 who was already the mother of four; William, Robert, Marita and Sharon. Marvin always considered all nine children as his own.

Marvin was a self-employed in-home construction and sales in Effingham, IL. He created his own company,  Landmark Corporation, “Builder of Fine Homes”. By far his greatest joy and purpose was sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.  He loved serving the Lord, encouraging people, learning and worshipping with his church, and spending time laughing and being with his family.

Marvin is survived by his five children: Robyn Brown and husband Shawn of St. Charles, MO, Doris Feltham and husband Don of Tulsa, OK, Tim Blackmore and wife Lisa of Ormond Beach, FL, John Blackmore and wife Laura of Sullivan, MO, Lynda Vaughn and husband David of Robinson, IL, William Gruenewald of Effingham, IL, Robert Gruenewald and wife Linda of Forsyth, IL, Marita Kirchoffer and husband Don of Condon, MT, and Sharon Holmes and husband Joe of Claremore, OK; 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy O’Mara of Louisville, KY and Linda Cates of Brentwood, TN; nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores; three grandchildren: Mindy, Kelly and Clay; his parents, Alvie and Gladys; and one sister, Carol.

Funeral services were 11 a.m., Monday, December 27, 2021 at Sullivan Christian Church, with Pastors John Blackmore and David Vaughn officiating. Service’s  concluded with full military honors.

Visitation was held from 9 to 11 a.m., Monday, prior to the service at Sullivan Christian Church.
