Leonard Doyle, 69, passed away peacefully at his home in Smithville, TX during the early hours of March 23, 2021.  He was surrounded by loved ones, Zachary Mattingly, Larraine Doyle and other family members… in photos above his bed.  He fought a long battle with complications from diabetes and cardiac issues, including multiple strokes over the last 7 years.  Leonard wanted to be able to help others after his death by donating his body to research.  Thanks goes to TX State University - Forensic Anthropology Center for making it happen and to Gipson Pendergrass-Peoples Mortuary for assisting in that process.

Leonard was born in Sullivan, MO to Earl Doyle and Thelma Easter in January 1952, later moving to St. Louis, MO.  Over the years, he became a big brother to 3 sisters - Vickie, Earlene & Paulette… and what a wonderful, loving brother he was.  For a short time, he lived in Stanton, MO with his grandmother and later returned to St. Louis, where he graduated from Riverview Gardens High School.  Leonard married and moved to the Houston, TX area, where he served for a short time in the US Army (Honorably Discharged) and worked at ARCO Refinery while helping to raise his family of 3 children – Erin, Patrick & Jennifer.

In later years, he divorced & moved to Anchorage, AK., to work on the Alaska Pipeline in Prudhoe Bay, AK. with ARCO/BP.  While in Anchorage, he married Larraine Mattingly.  After a few years, they moved to Steelville, MO for a short time and later returned to Anchorage.  In 1999, they moved to the quaint little town of Smithville, TX, home of the Sandra Bullock movie “Hope Floats.”  He just loved actress Sandra Bullock and ended up living down the street from her “movie” house.

Leonard was a wonderful, gentle man, a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, great-uncle and a friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.  Survivors include 2 daughters, Erin Collins (spouse Jason); Jennifer Roberts (spouse Theron); 1 son, Patrick A. Doyle (wife Rebecca); 1 stepson, Gabriel Mattingly; 5 sisters, Vickie Moreno (spouse, David); Earlene Doyle; Paulette Scott (spouse Steve); Theresa Leftely (spouse, Terry); Kendra Hardy (spouse James); former spouse and devoted caretaker, Larraine Doyle;  4 grandchildren, Zachary Mattingly (devoted caretaker); Dakota Mattingly;  Lilly Collins;  Seth Collins; 1 great-granddaughter, Leighton Davis; 2 aunts, Barbara Due and Esther McIntosh; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Leonard’s request, there will be no funeral service.   A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.   If you wish to leave a tribute for the family, you may go to this website: www.pendergrasspeoplesmortuary.com.

Leonard always said that he didn’t want anyone to dwell on his “end of life.”  He just wanted everyone to enjoy life and have fun… remembering him when he was at his best and the many memories that we made with him.
