Ferd J. Harmon, 84, of Sullivan, MO, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021 at INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK.

Ferd James Harmon was born February 6, 1937 on his grandparent’s farm in rural Washington County, MO, to John James and Elnore (Flanagin) Harmon. He grew up and attended several different schools, including Columbia Elementary in St. Louis, Reed’s Defeat, and Sullivan High School, from which he graduated in 1954. Ferd then attended one semester of college in Rolla before enlisting and serving his country for four years in the United States Navy.

Ferd was united in marriage to Judith A. Helton on October 28, 1961 and together they had three daughters: Cindy, Chris and Connie. The family lived in St. Louis for a short time before moving back to Sullivan in 1967. Ferd was employed by John Coleman and later purchased his own concrete construction business, known as Meramec Construction. He retired in 1996.

Ferd always loved being on the river, he loved swimming, fishing, camping and gigging. He enjoyed many nights gigging with his brother, Donnie. Later in life, Ferd and Judy thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the cabin. Many great memories were made while they gathered by the river with their family and friends. Ferd and Judy enjoyed traveling to Oklahoma to visit their sister, Carol. He always looked forward to his phone calls from sister Joan to check up on him, and visits from sister-in-law, Rita Moon and LeRoy. Ferd will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his family and friends.

Ferd is survived by his wife, Judy Harmon, of Sullivan, MO; his three daughters: Cindy McMillen, Chris Zancauske and husband Keith, and Connie Wood, all of Sullivan, MO; eleven grandchildren: Randy McMillen, Jr., Josh McMillen and wife Kayla, Kori Zancauske and girlfriend, Micah Weirich, Tyler Zancauske and wife Rylee, Brandon Keen and girlfriend, Karena Benson, Cody Keen, all of Sullivan, MO, Stacey Davenport and husband Ryan of North Carolina, Jeremy Strauser of Sullivan, MO, James Wood and wife Jiyun of South Carolina, Ryan Wood and girlfriend, Alexis Lockwood, of Festus, MO and Nick Wood of Union, MO; two great-grandchildren with two more on the way: River Grace McMillen, Kaiden Wood, Baby Brantley Keen due in December 2021 and Baby Zancauske due in April 2022; two sisters, Carol Bridwell of Oklahoma City, OK, and Joan Mathews of Sullivan, MO; numerous nieces and nephews, other extended relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elnore Harmon; one brother, Donald Harmon; one sister, Mae June Schatz; and one son-in-law, Matthew Wood.

Cremation arrangements have taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. at the KC Hall in Sullivan, MO.
