Driver Flees Crash Seriously Injuring Three Passengers

Three men were seriously injured early Saturday morning when a car veered off Highway 19 and struck multiple objects before coming to rest. The driver fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m. on July 26, about three miles south of Steelville in Crawford County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2002 Honda Accord began skidding and left the left side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a tree, an unoccupied parked car, and the side of a garage before stopping.

When emergency responders arrived, the driver was not at the scene. Authorities have not yet identified the individual behind the wheel at the time of the crash.

Three occupants — a 35-year-old man from Salem, a 22-year-old man from Cuba, and a 20-year-old man from Sullivan — were injured in the crash. All three were airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur for treatment.
