County Resident Unhappy With Road Conditions

A Bourbon resident expressed his displeasure with road conditions in the Rustic Acres subdivision, with District 2 Commissioner Jared Boast asking for more patience.

The unnamed resident said he lives on Edith Drive.

“It’s rough going through there,” he said. “I’m paying taxes to have roads done and nothing is being done.”

Boast offered the same explanation he has when residents complaint: his district is doing the best it can to keep up.

“All I can say is I appreciate your patience,” he said. “We’re behind because of rain, personnel and equipment. I went out two weeks ago and you’re right, it needs to be graded. As soon as they can get in there they will.”

The resident questioned Boast over a new road grader.

“You have three or four? So you don’t have operators now?” the resident asked. “Last time I was here you said didn’t have an operator.”

Boast said they have four graders, but often run one short due to an equipment issue.

“There’s always an equipment issue or personnel issues,” Boast said, adding that his district has been hit by sickness and lately hip and knee replacements.

“We’re battling it like any other employer out there,” he said.

The resident said he was tired of not being able to drive down his road.

“When I was here last time it was the same excuse,” he said.

Boast said they would hopefully be adding another part-time worker in the coming weeks. He also said it can take awhile to teach new employees how to grade.

“I’m paying taxes,” the resident said. “I don’t know why the roads can’t be done.”

Boast said ideally the roads would be graded quarterly. The resident said they haven’t been done quarterly, to which Boast corrected him.

“No sir, that’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying it would be nice to have them graded every quarter.”
