Bourbon Man Serving 120-Day Sentence For Felonies

A Bourbon man is currently serving a 120-day sentence for first-degree domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon and drug possession.

Steven P. Hughes, 58, was sentenced March 10 to shock treatment at the Fulton Reception & Diagnostic Center for crimes he committed in January.

Hughes is nearing the end of his sentence and is expected to appear in court next month for review.

Judge Michael Randazzo sentenced Hughes to 10, 10 and seven years for the charges, which will run concurrently if Randazzo declines to release him on probation.

Hughes pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm during a dispute over $100.

The incident occurred Jan. 13.

An argument erupted between Hughes and the victim. Hughes accused the victim of stealing $100 from him.

The victim said while he was loading his belongings into a van, Hughes came out of a house with a .22 caliber rifle. The victim ran away and heard a loud crack and the sound of a bullet passing over his head.

Hughes, who was already a felon, is prohibited from owning a firearm. The rifle was seized from his bedroom, along with a bag of methamphetamine.

The rifle also was found to be stolen.
