Track And Field Sets Records At Districts
Robert York II and Karlee Head etched their names into the record books on Saturday, May 19. They and Jayson Summers won events for Sullivan at the Class 4 District 5 Tournament.
The varsity teams ranked ninth in Washington, with the girls scoring 31 points and the boys racking up 41.
Six Sullivan athletes finished in the top four, punching their tickets to the Class 4 Sectional 3 Tournament. The meet will be held in Waynesville on Saturday, May 24.
R. York II won the javelin event and made history as the first thrower at Sullivan High School to reach 58.61 meters.
Head made great bounds in the long jump, tying the record of 5.58 meters and landing first. She was also fourth to cross the finish line in the 400-meter dash (1:01.41).
Summers was the district champion of the 300-meter hurdles. He leaped across the track in 41.27 seconds, clinching his ride to Waynesville.
Sullivan High School also had two relay teams that qualified for sectionals.
The boys’ 4x400-meter runners received bronze in Washington at 3:37.85. Zechariah Beagle, R. York II, William Hunter and Summers took the baton in the race.
The boys’ 4x800-meter team medaled in fourth place, finishing in 8:44.39. Its runners were Beagle, Hunter, Luke Herron and Summers.
