Flooding Prompts Road Closures In County

Heavy rains last week has prompted several road closures in Crawford County.

“This is nothing like the November 5 event but we still incurred significant damage,” said District 1 Commissioner Mark Pfeiffer, who covers much of the southern area. “We are compiling a list and will work on these in order of importance.”

Pfeiffer said some roads will be closed in certain areas until they can be repaired and that many roads have areas that are passable. Those will be left until all roads can be opened for traffic.

“Please be patient and know that we will get to them as soon as we can,” Pfeiffer said.

Road Closures and Impassable areas:

Keysville Road just past the cemetery has been washed out and is currently closed.
Seven Cedars Road is closed from the Cherryville Road side due to a culvert washout before the creek bottom.
Valleyside Road below Eaton Cemetery is impassable until water levels recede.
South Liberty Road is also impassable due to high water.
Little Shoal Creek Bridge is closed after the bridge approaches were washed out.

The United States Geological Survey showed the Meramec River was at its highest point on Saturday morning at 18 feet, considered minor flooding.

Moderate flooding is observed at 20 feet.

The river dipped below 10 feet as of Monday and was expected to continue falling through the rest of the week, according to the National Water Prediction Service.
