Sullivan Struggles In Conference Tipoffs To Hermann
Sullivan High School’s basketball teams began conference play against Hermann. Both squads faced adversity in their matchups and struggled to get ahead on the scoreboard.
Girls
The Lady Eagles (6-11) started week eight with a test against the Bearcats (11-7) on Monday, Feb. 3. They hung onto Hermann’s heels throughout but struggled to catch up at the end, falling 49-41.
Cora Shetley was Sullivan’s leading scorer with 10 points. The 5’10 senior also collected three rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Katie Miller topped her team with four assists and three steals. The 5’3 junior also splashed a three-pointer and snagged three boards.
Molly Lohden loaded up 7 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Avery Merkel racked up 6 points, a rebound and a steal.
Olivia Barton brought in 6 points and a rebound.
Sydney Montee tallied 3 points, a block, an assist and a rebound.
Lily Schmuke stacked up 2 points and two rebounds.
Ava Hayes sank a shot from downtown and hauled in a rebound.
Karlee Head drained a free throw and dished out an assist.
Kynlee Peterson pulled down three boards.
The Lady Eagles sank 13-40 of their field goals, 7-18 of their three-pointers, 6-22 of their twos and 8-11 of their free throws. They racked up 18 rebounds, eight assists, seven steals and a block. Sixteen turnovers and 17 fouls held Sullivan back from victory.
Boys
The varsity boys (2-17) also struggled to shut down Hermann (15-4), falling 57-25 on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
Peyton Malady led Sullivan with 10 points, sinking 4-7 field goals and 1-2 free throws. The 5’10 junior also pulled down two rebounds.
Chris Glaser racked up 7 points, two rebounds and an assist.
Landen Doza dropped 4 points, two rebounds and an assist.
Seth Valley tallied three rebounds, a steal and a free throw.
Jared Toews and Cooper Donner each dished out an assist.
Robert York crashed the boards for three rebounds.
Spencer Thomure swished in three points at the rim.
Raiden Redd hit the glass for a rebound.
The Eagles shot 8-27 from the floor, 5-18 from inside the arc and 3-9 outside. They also made 6-10 free throws, 13 rebounds, four assists and a steal. Sullivan surrendered 22 turnovers and five fouls to the Bearcats.
