Man Pleads Not Guilty In Fatal Crash
A Steelville man has pleaded not guilty in a suspected fatal DWI crash that occurred last June.
Cody Carey, 31, appeared in court Dec. 9 before Judge Michael Randazzo.
Carey is accused of being intoxicated June 7 when he was driving the wrong way on Highway 8 and struck another vehicle head-on, killing the driver, Joshua Morgan and causing serious injuries to the passenger, Leah Morgan.
Carey has been charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter, DWI — death of another, DWI — serious physical injury and two misdemeanor traffic charges.
He is scheduled to appear again Monday, Feb. 3 before Judge Megan Seay.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Carey was driving a 2007 Dodge 1500 westbound in the eastbound lane, colliding with Morgan’s 2019 Ford F-150.
Carey allegedly told a trooper he drank two beers and a shot of Fireball about one hour before the crash.
A preliminary breath test showed his blood alcohol concentration was .099.
