Sullivan Teen Shot During Suspected Drug Deal

Authorities are investigating a shooting involving an 18-year-old male that occurred on December 5.

Sullivan Police responded to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital at approximately 5:45 PM after receiving a report of a gunshot victim. The victim, identified as Chayden Gandy of Sullivan, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.

Gandy informed officers that he had driven to the residence of a 16-year-old male on McKinley Street to purchase marijuana. An altercation reportedly occurred during the encounter, leading to Gandy being shot. He left the scene and sought medical treatment at the hospital.

The juvenile suspect was later located by police, accompanied by a parent, and taken into custody. Multiple firearms were recovered from a vehicle associated with the juvenile.

Gandy was airlifted to a St. Louis area hospital for further treatment of his injuries, which are considered non-life-threatening.

The Franklin County Juvenile Office is collaborating with police as the investigation continues.
