Fatal Hit-and-Run On Interstate 44 Claims Life Of Arcadia Man

A 60-year-old man from Arcadia was fatally struck in a hit-and-run incident on Interstate 44 in Sullivan on Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. near the 225-mile marker of eastbound I-44.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the victim had been standing outside a 1999 Ford F250 and a 2006 Chevrolet HHR, both of which were parked on the shoulder of the highway. A tractor-trailer, which has not yet been identified, veered off the right side of the roadway. The front right corner of the tractor-trailer struck the pedestrian and sideswiped both parked vehicles before fleeing the scene.

Emergency responders from Missouri Baptist EMS pronounced the man deceased at 1:44 p.m. The identity of the tractor-trailer driver remains unknown as authorities continue to search for the vehicle involved in the fatal collision.
