Commission Candidates, NCCAD Race To Finish Line
Jared Boast, who won a three-way primary for District 2 commissioner on Aug. 6, said he is going back to the campaign trail.
Boast defeated Randy Chandler and David Gargus, clearing the way for a third term as commissioner.
However, Kevin Roach has filed as a write-in candidate. While Boast will be unopposed on the Nov. 5 ballot, voters can write in Roach.
“Team Boast 2024 will be back out on the campaign trail (not that we ever stop campaigning) working hard for your vote,” Boast wrote on his campaign Facebook page.
Roach held a series of meet-and-greets on Saturday. Roach, who is a former grader operator for Boast in District 2, said on his Facebook page that he worked alongside Chandler. Once Chandler showed a desire to be commissioner, Roach said he did not want to oppose him.
Proposition Lifesaver
The North Crawford County Ambulance District is taking its Proposition Lifesaver back to the voters next month.
The $4 million bond issue must be approved by 57 percent of voters.
NCCAD is proposing a 14 cent tax levy.
If a house is worth $100,000, the assessed valuation is $19,000. The estimated monthly cost would be $2.22.
If a house is worth $180,000, the assessed valuation is $34,200 and the estimated monthly cost of the tax levy is $3.99.
In 2021, the median value of an owner-occupied house was $136,000.
The ballot measure says the bond issue would decrease response times and carry out the district’s mission of constructing, improving, renovating, equipping and furnishing new and existing ambulance stations; acquiring and equipping ambulances and other emergency response vehicles and acquiring and installing medical, communication and other life saving service apparatus, equipment and technology.
