Franklin County Detectives Recover Dirt Bike Stolen Nearly 30 Years Ago
Franklin County detectives recovered a dirt bike that had been stolen from a Callaway County residence nearly 30 years ago.
The dirt bike was located at a residence in the 900 block of Eastview Drive in Union on Aug. 5.
The Kawasaki was taken from the owner in October 1995.
The victim said the bike was sentimental and that he had worked on it with his late father.
The victim happened to locate the bike on Facebook Marketplace.
He contacted the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, which opened an investigation.
Hours later, detectives were able to track down the bike.
The seller wasn’t home, but detectives received a search warrant.
The motor had been removed, but was later located.
It matched the bike stolen from Callaway County.
Franklin County Sheriff Steven Pelton said the owner was reunited with the bike on Aug. 6.
“I’d like to thank the victim for the tip on the location of the dirt bike, the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office, the Judges of the 20th Circuit Court, and our dedicated Property Crimes Detectives for their hard work in closing this case. This is happy ending for the victim and a rewarding one for our detectives,” Pelton said.
Charges are being sought against the suspect.
