An Illinois woman has been charged after she allegedly shot her husband in the face following a float trip.

Monique N. Byrd, 39, O’Fallon, is accused of first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

Byrd and her husband had come off the river Aug. 4 at Bass River Resort. They were in the truck when the husband allegedly grabbed her by the hair and throat from the back seat.

Byrd reached down and grabbed a .380 Ruger and fired multiple shots.

Byrd was found in the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the face and upper arm.

He was transported by helicopter to a trauma center.
