Pursuit From Bourbon To Rolla Ends With Arrest

A pursuit that began in Bourbon ended more than 20 miles later in Phelps County on June 12.

Aaron N. Gilbert, 45, faces charges for resisting arrest and speeding.

Gilbert allegedly sped past a Bourbon police officer going 106 mph on Interstate 44.

The probable cause statement alleges that the officer was parked at the emergency turnaround at the 216 mile marker around 2:40 a.m. when Gilbert drove past.

After clocking him at 106 mph, the officer began a pursuit. The vehicle continued on, driving into a construction zone outside of Cuba.

Workers were present in the area.

Gilbert slowed down with only one lane being open, but throttled up going more than 100 mph again once there were two lanes.

A Phelps County sheriff’s deputy deployed spike strips at the 195 mile marker, which deflated the vehicle’s tires.

It came to a stop one mile later.

Law enforcement held Gilbert at gunpoint, but he refused to exit. An officer grabbed him and pulled him out the car.

After a brief struggle, he was taken into custody.

Gilbert is being held without bond at the Crawford County Jail.
