Motorcycle Accident Leads To Charges

On 06/25/2024, at approximately 1:38 pm, Officers with the Sullivan Police Department were on routine patrol in the area of Main Street and Hughes Ford Road when the officers observed a sport type motorcycle run the stop sign at that location. The Officers activated the emergency lights and siren on their patrol vehicle to stop the motorcycle. The white male driver of the motorcycle with his female passenger then accelerated to attempt to elude the Officers. The motorcycle approached the intersection of Main Street and Elmont Road, failing to stop at the stop sign, and made a right hand turn onto Elmont at the rail road crossing. The motorcycle failed to negotiate the turn and crashed the motorcycle into the railroad tracks.
The driver of the motorcycle, James Reiker, a 27 year old male from Sullivan, received moderate injuries and was flown to St. Louis. The passenger of the motorcycle, Sydney Rebert, a 26 year old female from Sullivan, was transported to MO Baptist Hospital in Sullivan for minor injuries.
Charges against Reiker will be applied for through the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorneys Office for Resisting Arrest, Eluding an Officer, two Stop Sign violations, and Possession of Controlled Substance.
Charges against Rebert will be applied for through the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorneys Office for Possession of Controlled Substance.
