Homeless Man Found Deceased Near St. Clair Country Mart
The St. Clair Police Department said a homeless man was found deceased Jan. 17 behind Country Mart.
Police located Steven A. Everhart, 54, at 6:52 a.m. in a small clearing. Everhart was lying face down in the snow.
According to police, there were no signs of struggle or evidence of foul play. Everhart had no signs of trauma or visible injuries.
His body was taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
A Dollar General employee told police he had recognized Everhart around 9 p.m. the previous night. He knew Everhart to be a homeless person.
Everhart was behind Dollar General, shaking and his pants around his ankles. The employee said he appeared to be intoxicated, but didn’t smell of intoxicants. He helped Everhart with his pants and brought him inside Dollar General to warm up.
Everhart stayed inside the store until it closed at 10 p.m.
Everhart was last seen between Dollar General and Country Mart. There is an incline and the employee said Everhart was struggling to climb it.
Everhart told the employee he had a place to go, but wouldn’t say where.
