Sudsy's Laundromat Hit In Early Morning Burglary, Worker Robbed At Gunpoint That Night
Sullivan Police said there are no new leads on a burglary and robbery that occurred Dec. 21 at Sudsy's Laundromat.
Police Chief Patrick Johnson told the Independent News the public is encouraged to report anything they may have observed that early morning or evening.
Police continue to investigate the burglary, which happened around 5 a.m. that day, but also a strong armed robbery of a 89-year-old worker as she closed the business around 7:53 p.m.
Johnson said a white male, approximately 5’8” or 5’9” tall, engaged the employee in the parking lot under the pretext of assisting with trash disposal.
"The suspect then requested access to the restroom, where he remained for an extended period of time," Johnson said.
Upon exiting, the suspect proceeded to engage with the quarter gambling machine before revealing a silver revolver, pointing it at the employee, and demanding money.
The employee complied, providing an undisclosed sum of money, after which the suspect fled the scene on foot, heading south.
"Fortunately, the employee did not sustain any injuries during the incident," Johnson said.
The suspect was wearing a face mask, a dark blue or black coat and a black sweatshirt.
“We are actively seeking information regarding the identity of the suspect,” Johnson said. “Citizens with any pertinent information are strongly encouraged to contact us at 573-468-8001.
Johnson also reported that officers were called to the business early Thursday morning around 5 a.m. after a burglary alarm sounded.
The front door to the business was shattered and several gambling machines were broken into with a sledgehammer, as well as the door.
An undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
Johnson did not speculate as to whether the two incidents were connected.
