Crash Kills One, Injures Toddlers On Interstate 44

An Illinois woman died Nov. 21 during an early morning crash on Interstate 44 in Phelps County.

Kasey M. Cloud, 27, Decatur, was pronounced at the scene at 1:45 a.m. by Phelps County Coroner Ernie Coverdale.

Two toddlers — a 3-year-old female and 1-year-old male — had minor injuries and were taken to a Rolla hospital.

Ricky L. Dunn, 30, Decatur, was an occupant in the vehicle and had serious injuries.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened at the 187 mile marker in Rolla.

Cloud was driving a 2004 GMC Sierra when she lost control and struck a concrete barrier. She went off the right side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned multiple times.

She was partially ejected from the vehicle, while Dunn was completely ejected.

The vehicle came to a rest in the roadway.

Neither Cloud or Dunn were wearing safety devices.
