Softball Struggles In Weekend Fatima And Helias Double-Header
Sullivan traveled to Fatima on Saturday, Sep. 23, to face the defending state champions Fatima and the Class 4 runner-up, Helias. These tough battles would cap off their five-game week, leaving them with a 9-10 record.
Softball will continue to stay busy in the next few weeks until the season comes to a close. Head coach Ashley Crump is pumped up for the upcoming Springfield Invitational on Sep. 29-30. “We always look forward to going out of town for hotel stays; a lot of team bonding takes place. I also look forward to playing teams from a different area,” she explained.
Fatima
In their first game on Saturday, The Lady Eagles struggled to break through in a 9-1 loss against Fatima. The Comets came alive in the fifth inning, scoring five runs to bring their total to nine.
Evvie Blankenship was Sullivan’s sole scorer in the match, picking up a run when Rae Corwin hit a line drive in the bottom of the 6th inning.
Corwin had a team-high of 2 hits with an RBI, while Molly Lohden, Hayli Venable and Blankenship each collected a hit.
Starting pitcher Mia Pridemore pitched for three innings, and Ava Declue filled in for relief in the other three.
Helias

Down 3-0 with 2 outs in the top of the seventh inning, Evelynn Harris secured Sullivan’s first score on an error by center fielder Ava Morris. Following the play, Morgan Braun doubled on a line drive to far right field, allowing Ortner to hustle from second to home. The Lady Eagles were fired up, but the final out came soon after to halt their comeback.
