Bicyclist Fatally Injured Monday Night

A 42-year-old Sullivan man was fatally injured after the bicycle he was operating was struck on the North Service Rd., near 3 North Service Rd. at 8:21 p.m.

According to Sullivan Police they responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a pickup truck and a bicycle Monday night, September 25.

The news release states, The driver of a 1999 Chevrolet half-ton truck, 64-year-old Steven Holiday, Sullivan, was traveling westbound on the North Service Rd. when he heard what sounded like a crash.

Holiday pulled to the side of the road and observed a bicycle lodged under the front of his truck and then observed the driver of the bicycle, 42-year-old Shawn Estes, Sullivan, lying on the side of the roadway at the entrance to Laura Chrysler.

Estes was transported to Missouri Baptist Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The accident remains under investigation at this time, according to Sullivan Police.
