Lady Eagles Volleyball Finishes In Sixth Place In Windsor Classic
On Saturday, the Lady Eagles volleyball team finished sixth with a 2-3 record at the Windsor Classic in Imperial.
Sullivan started off the tournament going 1-2 in pool play. They lost both sets against Windsor and Pacific. They then rebounded and blew out Alton. The Lady Eagles went on to beat Mehlville in a three-set showdown, but came up short in their final match against Union.
Regarding the performance of her team, head coach Sarah Rochleau said, “Overall, the Windsor tournament was a really great opportunity to face some tough competition from bigger schools and really work on some things with our line-up.”
Windsor
Sullivan opened with a 20-25, 17-25 loss to the Windsor Owls. Abby Record had a team-high of 13 attacks. Stevi Sailing got 12 attacks, 4 serves, 3 kills and 2 points. Raegan Johnson and Emily Clonts both led the team with 4 points. Clonts and George also each got an ace.
Pacific
The Lady Eagles fell to Pacific in both sets, 9-25 and 17-25. Saling led the team with 12 attacks. Ava Blankenship had the most kills at 3. Clonts and George each had a team-high of 5 serves and 3 points. Clonts was the only one able to get an ace. Johnson recorded the most assists at 5.
Alton
Sullivan rolled right through Alton, winning 25-16 and 25-13. It was overall a great performance by Sullivan. Clonts got the most attacks with 11 and kills with 6. Johnson led the team with 10 serves, 8 points and 6 assists. George and Sailing tied for the most aces made at 4. Blankenship had a team-high of 2 blocks.
Mehlville
In a three-set battle with Mehlville, Sullivan lost the first one, 19-25. Yet they came back to dominate the last two sets, 25-11 and 25-12. Clonts and Ava Todd both led the team with 10 points. Todd also delivered the most aces at 4. Sailing had a team-high 18 attacks and Blankenship led in 7 kills.
Union
Sullivan could not get past Union as they fell to 6th place, 25-16 and 25-12. George served 7 times, scored 2 points and had 2 attacks. Todd put up 3 serves, 1 point and 4 assists.
There are still some tweaks to be made before they head to Blair Oaks on Tuesday. Rochleau explained, “We will spend some time Monday in practice working on some attack options out of a couple of our serve receive patterns, as we got stuck a couple of times on Saturday and just couldn’t find a way to score.”
Sullivan will face the Lady Falcons at Blair Oaks on Aug. 29. They play in their first home competition against Salem on Thursday, Aug. 31. Varsity will start at 6 p.m.
