New Haven Man Sentenced To Consecutive Terms For Sex Crimes
A New Haven man was sentenced Wednesday to consecutive terms for sex crimes, effectively putting him in prison for life.
Travis Canania was convicted last April on eight counts involving multiple victims.
Judge Craig Hellmann on Wednesday sentenced Canania to a combined 127 years in prison.
Canania’s request for a new trial was denied. An order was granted allowing him to appeal the sentence “as a poor person.”
Hellmann sentenced Canania to 20 years for three counts of statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy and one count of first-degree statutory sodomy.
Canania received two 15-year sentences for first-degree child molestation.
He received one 10-year sentence for third-degree child molestation and a seven-year sentence for enticement of a child.
The investigation began in August 2017, when a 13-year-old victim reported engaging in sexual conduct with Canania.
Court documents show that Canania also had sexual contact with other victims between 2007 and 2008 and again in 2016.
