Resident Brings Active Bomb To Sullivan Police Department
A resident on July 23 brought an active bomb to the Sullivan Police Department to report the device to officers.
Sullivan Police Chief Patrick Johnson stated at 10 p.m., an individual arrived reporting that he had a bomb in his vehicle.
The Sullivan resident stated that the device had been brought to him by two other individuals who had found it in another part of the city.
The device reportedly was found in a dumpster downtown by the two individuals as they were searching for boxes.
Johnson stated that the device was secured and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Explosives Disposal Unit was contacted to assist.
The MSHPEDU arrived at police headquarters and transported the device to an undisclosed safe location where it was dismantled for safety.
“The investigation into this device is ongoing,” said Chief Johnson.
The device, according to sources, made use of an explosive powder and a wick with a metal sealed container.
“We want to remind the public that if they encounter a suspicious item that could be an explosive to not touch or move the item and to contact the nearest law enforcement agency,” said Johnson. “This could have ended very seriously for someone but fortunately it did not.”
Anyone with information on this incident or device is asked to contact Sullivan Police at 573-468-8001. All information will be kept confidential.
