Third Suspect In Murder Arrested
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Tuesday that the third and final suspect in the Feb. 1 murder of Mister Zombie Halferty, 34, Union, has been arrested.
Halferty was shot and killed at Hood Park in Cuba.
Daeshawn L. Brandon, 22, St. Louis, is in custody at the Crawford County Jail on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action.
Malik Brandon, 24, Sullivan, and Maurice Williams, 22, Branson, have been jailed.
Daeshawn Brandon appeared before Judge Patrick Horsefield on May 30 where a request for bond change was denied.
Malik Brandon and Williams are due to appear in court June 9 at 10 a.m. for a preliminary hearing. The state has opposed bond reduction for both subjects.
The three men were allegedly purchasing marijuana from Halferty late that night. Surveillance video acquired from Hood Park security cameras show a “dark figure” approach the driver’s side of Halferty’s vehicle and three muzzle flashes go off.
Gunshots can be heard.
The vehicle leaves, but returns approximately two minutes later. Approximately eight more shots are fired into the vehicle.
Williams claimed that Halferty pulled out a handgun and pointed it at him while they were in his car.
He alleged that Malik and Daeshawn exited their vehicle. He accused Halferty of pointing the gun at Daeshawn, who returned fire. Williams said he drove away, but was told to go back. He said Daeshawn shot Halferty several more times. The three men went back to Sullivan and abandoned their vehicle.
The plates had been removed, but law enforcement traced the VIN back to Malik.
