CCR-1 School Board Reviews Parent Survey
The Crawford County R-1 School Board reviewed the Parent Climate and Culture Survey results, a part of the newest Continuous School Improvement Plan.
The CSIP was adopted by the school board in November 2021 and guides the work of the district for the upcoming years.
A team of school board members, administrators, district staffers, family members and community members met during August and September 2021 to collaborate on the CSIP.
Superintendent Dr. Kyle Gibbs presented the survey results during the Nov. 18 meeting.
Some of the findings from the survey were:
-More than 50 percent of parents that responded have only one child in the district.
“We have fewer children and if there is a recession, it could accelerate that,” Gibbs said.
-On bullying, Gibbs said they received mostly negative comments.
-The district received good comments on the facilities, which Gibbs credited Doug King and his staff for. On extracurriculars, the response was more mixed, though “not too bad overall.”
-The district received positive comments on communication, which is more important than ever, Gibbs said. He and Angie Cain, who does public relations work for the district, have worked to improve it.
“We’ve streamlined it and want to keep working on that area,” Gibbs said.
The district has Facebook pages for each campus and works to get information on each page.
-On parental involvement, Gibbs said many parents say they want to be involved, but the participation has not been there.
“We have to figure out,” he said.
-Parents are proud of the school, but their thoughts on leadership was “mixed.”
-Gibbs said they are aiming to continue to grow, get their message out and create bullet points that people will remember.
Finally, he said that the school saw its overall approval ratings rise after switching from a five-day school week to a four-day one.
