Sullivan Defeats Owensville In Quarterfinals

The Sullivan Lady Eagles were dominant against the Lady Dutchgirls at Wednesday’s softball game. Sullivan took control early on two home runs in the first inning. Kayla Ulrich blasted a home run in the first and was followed by Dorie Richardson with one in the same at bat. Ulrich launched another home run in the game. Evvie Blankenship was immaculate on the mound and pitched another shutout. The Lady Eagles defeated Owensville, 13-0.

At the bottom of the first, Sullivan drew first blood with four runs. Sullivan’s first batter, Ulrich, launched a massively long home run to left field. Morgan Braun was the next batter and singled on a fly ball. Richardson was the next batter and went yard on home run to center. Molly Lohden landed on an error and she was scored by Hayli Venable who landed on a fly ball single. Sullivan led, 4-0.

At the bottom of the second, Sullivan added two more runs. After an out, Ulrich hit a line drive single. She then advanced to second and third on a passed ball. Richardson walked, before Ulrich scored on a passed ball. Richardson scored on an error made by the shortstop.

At the bottom of third, Sullivan’s offense was still in control. Alexis Funkhouser was hit by the pitch and Blankenship hit a fly ball single to center. The two runners scored when Grace Halmick hit a line drive single to left.

At the bottom of the fourth, Sullivan secured the win with five runs. Sullivan started on their infamous two out rally, when Funkhouser singled on another line drive. Blankenship walked again before Hannah Campbell walked and the bases were loaded. Two runners scored on a line drive single by Halmick. Ulrich cleared the bases when she slammed another home run to center. The final score was 13-0.

Ulrich was a perfect 3-3 at the plate. Richardson and Halmick both went 2-3 at the plate.

Blankenship pitched the full game on the mound for Sullivan. She only gave up two hits and recorded a staggering eight strikeouts.
