Happiness At Homecoming, Sullivan Wins
The energy was up on a cool fall evening.
Sullivan used their motivation from the previous’s loss to St. Clair to defeat Pacific 30-0 at Homecoming.
The Eagles showed no mercy as they shut out their Four Rivers Conference rivals.
“Overall, good win on Homecoming,” said head coach Eddie Haar. “Proud of our kids, excited for them. It was good to get back into the winning side of things.”
In the first quarter, Sullivan took the lead early. The Eagles came alive with their first drive. Jeremiah Rodriguez made a good run to claim a first down. Sullivan marched right down the field. They scored their first touchdown when Rodriguez met the endzone. Jordan Rice took the ball in for a two-point conversion and Sullivan was up 8-0.
The Indians weren’t going down without a fight as they converted a first down on their opening drive.
Haar wanted to use a timeout and the clock was stopped with 3:57 left in the first quarter. Gavin Dace came back and stopped Pacific on defense.
Later, Gabe Dace found Jonathon Martin open in the endzone. They missed the extra points, but still led the Indians 14-0.
The Indians made Sullivan nervous when they found one of their receivers wide open down the field, but Sullivan’s defense made them turn the ball over without a score.
In the second quarter, Franky Erxleben led in rushing yards and made a great 45 yards run to start.
He ran the ball in the endzone and got the two point conversion to make the score 22-0.
Sullivan’s defense was a winning factor in the game as they kept stopping the Indians. The height of Gavin Dace helped him bat the ball away from being caught by Pacific.
When Sullivan got the ball back Gabe Dace found Erxleben open and threw a great three-yard pass.
In the third quarter, both teams played well defensively. Sullivan had the ball and took a timeout on fourth-and-1 to go. The clock was stopped with a little under six minutes left. Pacific’s defense stopped Sullivan without a score, but Sullivan still picked up a few first downs. Gabe Dace found his brother Gavin Dace open and Rodriguez ran the ball in for a first.
In the final quarter, Sullivan’s defense shined. Sam Summers recorded a huge sack to give Sullivan the edge. The Eagles recorded their final touchdown when Erxleben ran in another in the endzone. Rice picked up another two points for Sullivan on a run. Pacific was put away when Dominic Ransom came down with a tremendous interception.
Erxleben led in rushing yards with 147. Rodriguez followed with 41. Dayton Skaggs tallied 33 yards and Gabe Dace rushed for 24. Martin had the most receiving yards with 45. Gabe Dace passed for 75 yards and one touchdown. Sullivan is on the road this week against Hermann on Friday.
