Sullivan Volleyball Splits Games This Week

The Lady Eagles opened their season this week. They fell to Blair Oaks in four sets at home and swept Salem in all three sets on Thursday at Salem.

The Lady Eagles fell to the Lady Falcons at home on Tuesday. There were four sets because Sullivan was victorious in the second set. Blair Oaks won the first (25-14), third (25-17), and fourth (25-16) sets. Sullivan took the second set (25-23).

Sullivan scored the first point of the game with Maci Nolie as the server. The Lady Falcons scored more points but Sullivan scored again when Blair Oaks sent a ball into the net. The Lady Eagles began to fight back when the score was 12-7 and Nolie scored again. She began to try to take the game back for Sullivan and she made Head Coach Sarah Rochleau burn a timeout when Blair Oaks stopped the Sullivan run at 15-8. Sullivan clearly made adjustments because the ladies went in on another run and found themselves at a 22-11 score. Emma Brune knew what to do as she served the balls in perfect position. The final score was 25-14, Blair Oaks won the first match.

The second match was a different story. Blair Oaks scored the first two points in the game but watched a ball go out. Sullivan tied the game and took the lead but Blair Oaks tied it back. Sullivan took revenge and made the score 8-7 when Brune blasted a huge spike. They tied the score at eight, then scored three more unanswered points. The Lady Falcons bridged the gap, but Olivia Witt shut them down with a huge spike to bring the score to 16-11. Blair Oaks eventually tied the score at 16 and Coach Rochleau took another time out. They added four more scores and Sullivan fought back with Witt as the server. The Lady Eagles tied the score at 20 and Blair Oaks broke the tie only to lose it again to Sullivan. Anna Brooks became the server and took the lead. Blair Oaks tied the score at 23 and Sullivan took a timeout to regroup. Their much needed motivation helped them win the set by two points, 25-23.

The third match started with the Lady Falcons out for revenge. Sullivan was down 8-3, before they began to bounce back. Coach Rochleau decided to take a timeout and talk to her team when the score was 12-7. The Lady Eagles scored their next point on another big spike by Witt. The game was back and forth and Sullivan bridged the gap with Brune as the server and the score was 20-16. Coach Rochleau took her final time out of the night when the score was 23-16. The final score was 25-16.

Nolie is looking to beat the school record in assists this season and secured a staggering 20 on the game. She also got one ace, three points, four kills, and six attack attempts. Brune led in attack attempts with 40 and she had six kills. She also scored three aces and nine points. Witt followed in attack attempts with 33 and claimed 11 kills, She finished with three points and one ace. Stevi Saling had 16 attack attempts and one kill. Emily Clonts made eight attack attempts, two kills, two points, and one ace. Brooks made two attack attempts, three points, and one ace. Regan Johnson finished with one kill, two attack attempts, two aces, and eight points. Ava Blankenship made a kill and four attack attempts. Erica Jeurgens secured two kills and five attack attempts.

Salem

Sullivan swept Salem in all three sets on the road. Sullivan was victorious, 25-17, 25-20, and 25-11. This was perfect timing after the devastating loss to Blair Oaks earlier in the week. All three teams collapsed Salem in straight sets.
