Potosi Police Officer Arrested And Charged With Child Related Crimes

In a recent statement given by Chief of Police Michael Gum, it was revealed that Potosi Police Officer Matthew Skaggs has been arrested and charged with the following offenses:

• Statutory Sodomy or Attempted Statutory Sodomy-Deviate Sexual Intercourse

• Enticement or Attempted Enticement of a Child (Actor 21 YOA or Older and Child Less Than 15 YOA)

• Endangering the Welfare of a Child Creating Substantial Risk- 1st Degree

Chief Gum was connected by an individual August 9 alleging misconduct by an officer and began to gather information. Once it became clear that the allegations were criminal, the Missouri State Highway Patrol to request an investigation which was immediately begun.

Skaggs was arrested August 10 and transported to the Washington County Jail. He has resigned his position with the Potosi Police Department and surrendered his Peace Officers License.
