Eagles Show Improvement
The Sullivan Eagles boys soccer team improved amazingly from their prior record of 2-19-1. Sullivan finished this season with a record of 11-20-1. Sullivan defeated St. Clair twice this season and secured a big win over Pacific. Seniors Andrew Starr and Charlie Lohden helped lead the team in a big way to this better record.
Sullivan really came together as a team for the first time when the boys traveled to Lebanon and won two games and lost one in their first tournament of the season. After a loss to Washington at their home by one, Sullivan won three games in a row, one game in particular being 7-1 against Hazelwood East.
The Eagles got their only tie of the whole season at St. Louis United. After Sullivan defeated Fatima at home, they traveled to Union and fell 5-1. The season went back and forth with Sullivan winning two in a row and then falling two in a row. The Eagles traveled to Dixon and trounced the Tigers 5-4. The Pacific Indians traveled to Sullivan on October 11 and fell to the Eagles in a shootout. Three days later, Sullivan fell to Warrenton, 4-2.
Sullivan defeated the St. Clair Bulldogs for a second time, 8-0. After three losses in a row, 2-1, the Eagles finished their season with defeat by the St. Mary's Dragons, 4-0. Sullivan fell in the first round of the Class 2, District 2 Boys Soccer Tournament.
Lohden led the team with 13 goals, 26 shots, 28 points, and two assists. Zechariah Beagle got eight goals, 19 shots, 17 points, and one assist. Trey Behrens made six goals, 12 shots, 16 points, and four assists. Dock Thomure scored four goals, eight shots, nine points, and one assist. Kaleb White made two goals, 14 shots, eight points, and four assists. Dillon Freeman finished with three goals, two shots, seven points, and three assists. Lucas Livell had two goals, five shots, five points, and one assist. Drew Schlueter finished with two goals, nine shots, six points, and two assists.
Andrew Starr played 1,670 minutes as the Sullivan goalkeeper. He had 11 wins and ten losses. Starr only allowed 39 goals but saved the ball 178 times from touching the back of the net.
“Good team,” said Head Coach Bill Kackley. “Can't hang our heads. We didn't lose to anybody that wasn't a good quality team. We made improvements, can't complain.”
