Shetley Set To Continue Football Career At Quincy
Ty Shetley was a big part of Sullivan’s football program for three years and now he’s ready for another challenge. Shetley has signed to play at Quincy University in Illinois.
Shetley was one of the best defensive players on the Eagles last year and recorded a spectacular 10 tackles against Hermann in a 32-7 victory at home.
Shetley finished with 40 tackles last year. He finished the season before with 39 tackles. He was named to the all-area football team the last two seasons.
“I chose to go to Quincy because the people were really nice,” said Shetley about his decision. “I thought it was a cool opportunity to be a part of a brand new program (sprint football).”
Sprint football primarily uses the same rules as American football. The main difference is it emphasizes quickness and agility as opposed to size and strength. Like wrestling, sprint football players must meet a weight limit, which in the modern form of the game is 178 pounds.
Shetley said that he was also looking at other schools such as Westminster, Midway University, and Central Methodist.
Midway University also has a sprint football team that will play Quincy in the upcoming season.
Shetley is extremely excited about joining the sprint football program because he will get to continue to play the sport that he loves.
“But I also get to go against guys close to my size,” Shetley added..
Shetley’s biggest strength is his drive and competitive nature that he uses to work hard to always keep improving.
“I need to work on my speed and agility,” Shetley said about where he needs to improve. “The games are going to be a lot faster, so I’m going to have to adapt to it.”
Shetley said his favorite memory on the field was always being able to play with his brother, Evan. He said when they played Owensville his senior year was one game that stuck out in particular in his mind.
