Sullivan Post 18 Falls In First Round
Sullivan Post 18 fell in the first round of the Ninth District tournament on Tuesday.
Hannibal toppled the juniors 4-1.
After the fireworks from the night before, Post 18 was stopped in their track against a Hannibal team they put away in a doubleheader earlier this season.
Dustin Lappe got the start for Sullivan and lasted five innings.
Lappe surrendered four runs off seven hits and struck out five.
Isaiah Skaggs pitched two innings in relief. He only gave up two hits and had one strikeout.
The game started when Hannibal’s first batter hit a double. Edelman was then hit by the pitch and Hannibal got on the board with an RBI single.
Hannibal scored two more runs after an out and a single by Cook. Hannibal was up 3-0 after one inning before Sullivan’s first at bat.
Sullivan scored their only run in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Brennan Bouse was hit by a pitch.
Dayton Skaggs then slapped a line drive single to left field. Bouse, who had stolen second base, was scored. Skaggs advanced to second on the throw to home.
Beckett kept the line moving with a walk, but the side was retired and Post 18 trailed 3-1.
The juniors tried to rally in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Seth Valley singled on a hard ground ball to the third baseman. He was stranded on base after a ground out by Nate McReynolds.
