Storage Shed Destroyed By Fire

Update:

A storage shed was destroyed by a fire Sunday night on Apollo Drive in Stanton.

Sullivan firefighters were called to 475 Apollo Drive at 6:58 p.m. for a reported structure fire.

According to Sullivan Fire Chief Eric Lewis, firefighters responding from Sullivan could see a large column of black smoke to the east near Stanton from eastbound I-44 and as they arrived they located a shed along with a cargo trailer on fire.

“Once our crew responded and saw the visible smoke from Flying J, truck stop, they called for a first alarm structure fire,” said Chief Lewis. “They arrived on the scene and determined it was a small shed with a cargo trailer and home nearby being impacted from the heat of the shed fire. Firefighter Jacob Dace determined that the crews could handle the fire and disregarded some of the incoming units. They were able to bring the fire under control quickly; however, some of the siding on the home was damaged from heat and the cargo trailer also was damaged.”

Firefighters used their main water line to attach the shed fire and then worked to cool the siding down on the home and on the cargo trailer with a secondary line. The cargo trailer and shed had some vintage collectibles and vintage collectible fireworks inside at the time of the fire.

“The cause of the fire appears to be unintentional, and we can’t rule out that electrical issues did not have something to do with causing the fire,” said Chief Lewis.

Lewis explained that a power strip had three items plugged into it which could have contributed to the fire.

There were no injuries to the property owners nor firefighters on the scene.

Sullivan was assisted by Missouri Baptist Ambulance and Bourbon Fire.
