Post 18 Stands Tall Against St. Charles
Sullivan Post 18 was relentless and showed tenacity Friday in a 16-11 win over St. Charles Post 312.
Post 18 trailed 6-0 after the top of the first, but they rallied back to finish out the regular season with a win.
Grant Halmick got the start for Sullivan and gave up 11 runs on 14 hits.
He also recorded three strikeouts.
Dayton Skaggs came in as the relief pitcher on the mound.
St. Charles Post 312 took the lead early when they scored six runs in the top of the first.
In the bottom of the first, Sullivan snapped back. Seth Valley was the first batter for Sullivan and he was walked. He then stole second before an out was recorded. Brennan Bouse doubled on a line drive to center that drove in Valley.
After another out was recorded, Beau Beckett singled on a ground ball and scored Bouse, 6-2.
St. Charles Post 312 added three more runs to their score and Sullivan fought right back at the bottom of the second.
Anden Carey singled and two batters were hit by the pitch to load the bases. Valley then singled on a hard ground ball and Carey and Lucas Parsons scored.
After an out, Bouse singled and the bases were loaded again. Halmick scored when Dayton Skaggs slammed a line drive to left field.
Post 18 scored two more runs in the bottom of the third, but secured the win in the bottom of the fourth when they scored five runs. Beckett hit a ground ball and reached on an error. He then advanced to second on a dropped ball and Carey reached on a walk. Parsons singled on a hard ground ball the bases were loaded. Isiah Skaggs came in for Halmick and was hit by the pitch and a run was scored.
Valley ground out but scored Carey. Parsons scored on a passed ball and Skaggs was scored when Kaden Smith hit a line drive to center.
Smith was scored when Bouse singled on a line drive. Post 18 scored three more runs before the game was over with a final score of 16-11.
Sullivan had 16 hits and 16 runs. Bouse led the offense going 5-5. Carey, Parsons, and Valley each went 2-3. Bouse and Valley secured four RBIs each.
