Traffic Stopped On I-44 Due To Fatal Crash
An accident halted traffic on eastbound Interstate 44 between Sullivan and Stanton on Saturday as a result of a fatal crash at the 228 mile marker.
The highway patrol said a Philadelphia man was killed in the crash, which occurred at 2:30 a.m.
According to the report, a 2021 Volvo tractor trailer driven by Ruslan B. Kraievskyi, 36, Philadelphia, went off the roadway and into the median until it came to a creek opening. The vehicle traveresed the creek and struck an embankment.
The vehicle became engulfed in flames.
Kraievskyi was pronounced dead at 3:31 a.m.
A passenger, Danil Stakhnev, 39, Valley Stream, New York, was flown to St. Louis.
It is unknown if the occupants were wearing seat belts.
