Sullivan Police Remind Residents Of Scam Bond Calls

Sullivan Police are once again reminding residents about scam calls and in particular scam calls alleging that a family member is in jail and bond is needing to be paid for their release.

Sullivan Police were contacted on Thursday, April 29, by a Sullivan resident who reported that they had received a call from an individual identifying himself as "Deputy Paul Nixon" of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

The alleged deputy stated to the individual that the bond for their loved one was $1,000 and that they could go purchase gift cards totaling $1,000 and their family member would be released.

The resident purchased the cards and provided the suspect with the card information only to receive a phone call sometime later seeking additional funds from the victim.

It was at this point the resident contacted Sullivan Police to file a report.

Authorities contacted the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and determined that the officer was not employed with their department and that they had not arrested their relative. The phone numbers being used in the incident were also fake phone numbers.

Sullivan Police reminds residents not to fall for these types of scam calls.

Authorities will not call and seek bond over the phone for an inmate.

If you suspect a scam call contact Sullivan Police at 573-468-8001.
