Sales, Use Taxes Pass In Crawford County, Bourbon
Voters in Crawford County overwhelmingly approved a continued one-half of 1% sales tax increase with a permanent repeal of personal and property taxes on Tuesday night.
The sales tax increase first passed in April 2018 was due to sunset on Dec. 31, 2023, but by a 918-363 tally, the tax will continue on.
Voters in the city of Bourbon approved a use tax on online purchases made from out-of-state vendors.
By a 35-20 count, voters approved the tax.
There were no races for the Bourbon Board of Aldermen.
Mayor Dave Lafferty, Ward 1 Alderman John Nelson and Ward 2 Alderwoman Sonya Sewald were all unopposed.
Lafferty received 45 votes against four write-ins.
Nelson received 23 votes.
Sewald received 24 votes against one write-in.
There were no races for the Crawford County R-1 School Board.
Turnout was high in the race for Sullivan School District.
Jim Bartle received 95 votes.
Incumbents Robby Berti and Randy Stack received 69 and 64 votes, respectively.
Voters in Ward 3 of the city of Sullivan broke for challenger Randy Counts.
Counts received 67 votes to incumbent Paul McCulloch’s 33.
Washington County
In Washington County, Stack received 12 votes, Bartle 11 and Berti 2.
