Sullivan Fire, Police And EMS Honors Handed Out Saturday

The Sullivan Fire Protection District, Sullivan Police and Missouri Baptist EMS held their annual awards banquet on Saturday, March 26, at St. Anthony Parish Gymnasium with some 90 people in attendance.

Sullivan Police Chief Patrick Johnson presented a Five Years of Service to Officer Nathan Rhoads, 20 Years of Service to Animal Control Officer Jim Bogert and 25 Years of Service to Lt. Jeffrey Rohrer.

Those also recognized for years of service but not in attendance were: Officer Jason Stockton, 15 Years of Service, Don Reed, 15 Years of Service and Lt. Greg West, 35 Years of Service.

Johnson then presented the 2021 Civilian Employee of the Year to Dispatcher Chelsea Pense and 2021 Officer of the Year to Zachary Hudson.

Aaron Turner, Missouri Baptist EMS Director announced the 2021 Paramedic of the Year Award to Danny Wegescheide.

Turner also presented an Honorary Member of Missouri Baptist EMS to retired Sullivan Police Chief George R. Counts.

The Sullivan Fire Protection District Chief Eric Lewis presented a number of awards for the fire protection district among them included years or service awards, alarm and training top responders and Junior, Senior Volunteer and Paid Firefighter of the Year Awards.

Firefighters Ray Enloe and Damon Sumpter were both recognized by the District with Leather Fire Helmets for their 35 years of active service.

Those also recognized for Years of Service awards were: Kolten Byrd, Zac Hertel, Ethan Hines, Beau Kick and Zach Martel, Five Years of Service; Chase Robertson, Jordon Shortt, John Wayne Strothkamp and Stetson Zelch, Ten Years of Service; David Konys, 15 Years of Service; Gary Midyett, 20 Years of Service, Honoraries Nick Earl and James Bartle, 25 Years of Service; Frank Blanton, Bob Hohman, Corey Rice and Marko Turner, 30 Years of Service and Chris Garner and Honorary Bobby Sumpter, 35 Years of Service.

Several Firefighters were recognized for Clinical Saves for 2020 and 2021 these included: Damon Sumpter, Ray Enloe, Jacob Dace, Sierra Smythe, Stetson Zelch, Joe Kincaid, Jacob Dace, Drew Richards and Tyler Goodman.

With the award being postponed for 2020 till 2021 the district presented both years awards.

Firefighters responding to over ten percent (10%) of the alarms in 2020 were: Zach Martel, TJ Robertson, Zac Hertel, Ethan Hines, George Bonney Sr. and Kyle Robertson.

The firefighter that responded to the Most Alarms in 2020 with 56.3% of the alarms was Trevor Woods; Most Training By Volunteer, Trevor Woods, 289 Hours; Most Hours by Paid Firefighter, Joe Kincaid, 501 Hours and over 100 training hours Corey Rice.

The 2020 Junior Firefighter of the Year, Bennett Sherrell, Volunteer Firefighter of the Year, George Bonney Sr., Paid Firefighter of the Year, Joe Kincaid, Volunteer Fire Officer of the Year, Lt. Jordon Shortt and Paid Fire Officer of the Year Captain David Konys.

The firefighter with the Most Training Hours in 2021, Volunteer was Beau Kick, 210 hours; Paid Firefighter With Most Training Hours, Capt. Dave Konys and those with over 100 training hours were: Kolten Byrd, Chelsea Noack, Corey Rice, Trevor Woods, Eli Sanneman and Bennett Sherrell.
