Six Killed In Southeastern Missouri Crash
The Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office said six people died in an accident Thursday on Interstate 57 near Charleston, Mo.
More than 100 vehicles were involved in the crash, which extended for a half-mile.
I-57 was closed from the Illinois border to Interstate 55 in Sikeston as crews worked to untangle the carnage.
All lanes were finally reopened early Friday morning.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has not issued an accident report, but online reports say that fog obscured visibility on the interstate. A vehicle stopped and caused a chain-reaction crash.
Towing operators were called in from Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky to assist, according to to the Scott City Fire Department.
