Firefighters Save Home Saturday, One Injured Transported To MoBap
Sullivan Firefighters were called to 21 Golf Dr., Saturday evening, February 26, at 8:38 p.m., for a residential structure fire.
Sullivan Fire Marshal/Assistant Chief Corey Rice, arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke coming from the home and fire in the kitchen area of the home.
“Firefighters arrived at 8:43 p.m. and were able to make very strong attack on the fire and bring it under control quickly saving the home,” said Sullivan Fire Chief Eric Lewis. “I was very proud at how quickly this fire was brought under control.”
Sullivan Fire was assisted by St. Clair Fire and all occupants were out of the home at the time the fire was reported.
Firefighters from Sullivan and St. Clair still made a search of the home and basement for anyone inside and did locate a cat. The cat was given oxygen to try to resuscitate the animal however those efforts were unsuccessful.
According to Sullivan Fire one male subject from the residence was transported to Missouri Baptist Hospital-Sullivan, for treatment of smoke inhalation and minor injuries.
Fire Marshal Rice went inside the home to attempt to determine a cause for the fire. A cause has not been made however reports indicate that the fire began in the kitchen area possibly around a refrigerator.
Firefighters finished overhaul operations at the home and concluded their service at 10:23 p.m.
