Eagles Edge St. James At Courtwarming

Sullivan and St. James Put On Great Performances On Friday Night

 

Sullivan and St. James rained 3-pointers on each other Friday night, but it was Sullivan coming out ahead.

The Eagles’ shots were on point and they were victorious 48-39 at Courtwarming.

Sullivan put a stop to St. James’ five-game winning streak and battled back after losing two straight earlier in the week.

Blaine Sappington was the first player to score as put in a  layup to set the pace. St. James answered back a little over six minutes left in the first quarter. Sullivan stole the ball right back and Kyle Lewis landed a 3-pointer.

St. James rallied back with a layup. Logan Watters was the first one land a big three point shot. Charlie Lohden landed one a minute after he did. Sullivan held onto the early lead even after Logan Sparks of St. James jammed a three point shot. Chris Boone of St. James netted a layup with a little over two minutes left.

The Eagles handled the ball with great control.  Luke Todd danced around the double team defense and netted his own 3-point basket.

The Tigers tallied in a layup and Cooper Harlan sailed in a 3-pointer at the buzzer. St. James took the early lead, 15-14.

Sam Summers took the lead away not long after the second quarter began. Silas Redburn of St. James answered back and took the lead back.

The Tigers lost their momentum early and got a travel called against them. Sullivan picked right back up and Summers secured a layup for the Eagles. Sullivan travelled though and needed to take a timeout and a little over five minutes remained in the second. Lohden landed another great three point shot and netted another one a minute later.

Head Coach Ben Smith of St. James needed to talk to his team, so he took a timeout with 2:46 on the clock. Sappington made the game look easy when danced around the defenders and made an inside shot off the glass.

St. James was shaken, committing costly fouls and mistakes.

Watters spun around his double team defense and made a layup. St. James made a 3-point shot and the score was 28-22 at the end of the first half.

The Tigers tried to bridge the gap as they netted two more points to start the second half. Todd answered back with a layup of his own. Lewis landed another layup to follow Todd. Chris Boone of St. James stole the ball and nailed a fast break layup. Sullivan stole the ball from St. James and St. James stole the ball right back.

The Tigers took the added motivation to the hoop but was stopped by a huge defensive slap by Lewis. Blake Redburn of St. James landed a layup but they lost momentum when they were caught in a travel foul with exactly two minutes left in the third. Lewis was extraordinary on both sides of the ball and landed a big layup after a huge fast break. Summers netted another free throw and the score was 35-30 to lead into the final quarter.

The game remained close and Head Coach Dino McKinney took a timeout to talk to with his team. Sullivan came up with a great gameplan to secure the win.

Summers slayed a layup and the Tigers answered back with a layup. Sappington wasn't done scoring and dropped in another two points. The Eagles knew how to chew the clock and controlled the ball very well. They took their time to set up the plays the needed to succeed. Todd blasted another ball in the basket for two and Sappington followed with two more points.

A technical foul was called on Sullivan and St. James recorded a free throw. Boone from the Tigers tallied two more points for his team and they scored another free throw. Lohden continued his big night with two more free throws.

Lohden landed a layup and Silas Reburn tried to make some more free throws for the Tigers. He was unsuccessful but Lohden landed two more free throws for Sullivan and the final score was 48-39.
