Shetley, Rice Finish Sixth At State

Ty Shetley and Jordan Rice finished sixth place in their respective weight classes on Saturday at the Class 2 state wrestling meet.

Shetley, a senior, finished all-state for the second straight year, while Rice, a junior, earned his first all-state honor.

They were two of Sullivan’s eight wrestlers that traveled to Mizzou Arena for the three-day event.

Shetley  pinned Isaac Kauffman of Macon at 1:11 in the first round. In the quarterfinals, he fell to Jay Greiner of Lafayette St. Joseph by a 3-0 decision. Shetley pinned Griffin Swearengin of Logan-Rogersville at 1:52 in the consolation round two. In consolation round three, he won by a 1-0 decision over Dominic Cahalan of Kirksville. He fell to Logan Montoya of Helias Catholic by a 3-1 decision in the consolation semifinals.

Jake Anthonysz of Cassville won a tie breaker 3-2 in the fifth place match.

Rice began his tournament run by pinning Gabe Pineda of Marshall at 2:37 in the first round. He won by a 5-3 decision over JaDontae Ray of Fulton in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he was pinned by Zander Brinegar of Oark Grove at 3:52. Dane Donigian of Southern Boone defeated Rice by a 9-4 decision in the consolation semifinals. In the fifth place match, Tanner Nappier of Helias Catholic pinned Rice at 4:55.

Others

Carter Blankenship represented Sullivan in the 106-pound weight class. Paxton Martin of Hallsville pinned Blankenship in the championship round one at 0:48. He was pinned in the consolation round one by Brady Jones of Odessa at 0:37. Simon Hartline of Monett was the champion.

Eli Peregoy competed in the 126-pound weight class. He was defeated by Dalton Coe of Pleasant Hill by a 11-3 major decision in championsip round one. He won by a 5-2 decision over Mokey Dawn of Nevada in the consolation round one. He was pinned by Levi Perry of St. Charles at 1:44 in round two of the consolation. Jack Lage of Helias Catholic finished in first.

Dominic Ransom wrestled at 132. He won by a 3-2 decision over Jase Todd of Odessa in the first round of the championship. Grant VanHorn of Mexico defeated him by a 3-0 decision in the quarterfinals. He pinned David Thorne of St. Charles at 1:31 in consolation round two. In consolation rond three, he was defeated by Akhilleus Arguelles of Cassville by a 9-0 major decision.

Sam Ewing of Pleasant Hill was the champion.

Adam Peregoy wrestled at 138. He fell to Carson Hayes of Helias Catholic by a pin at one minute in the championship round one. In consolation round one, he fell by a technical fall of 16-0 at 2:37 by Lane Patterson of Kirksville.

Owen Uhls of Fulton finished in first.

Ethan Hurt competed at 145. He won by a 5-3 decision over Easton Byrne of Reeds Spring in the first round. In the quarterfinals, he fell by a technical fall at six minutes at 19-3 by Garret Lyons of Pleasant Hill. In consolation round two, he was pinned by Hunter Jennings of Southern Boone at 3:35.

Brock Woodcock of St. Clair took first place.

Colton Brendel made a run, but was cut just short. He was pinned by Ryan Volland of Pleasant Hill at 1:23 in the first round.

In the consolation round one, he won by a 16-2 major decision over Bodie Legan of Macon. Brendel won by a sudden victory over Levi Wiegand of Ste. Genevieve in consolation round two. In consolation round three, he was pinned by Zach Rackers of Blair Oaks at 2:10.

Ayden Dolt of Excelsior Springs won the championship.

Sullivan finished 21st in the 53-team field with 31 points.

Pleasant Hill was the number one team with 178.5 points. Helias Catholic followed with 133 points. Kirksville finished in third with 98 points. Cameron took fourth with 95 points. Seneca got fifth with 77.5. Osage followed with 74.5 points. St. Clair finished in seventh place with 70.5 points, followed by Fulton with 68. Hallsville got 65.5 points and ninth. Ste. Genevieve rounded out the top ten spot with 64 points.
