Sullivan Wins In Overtime

Shamrocks Luck Runs Out
The Sullivan Lady Eagles defeated the New Haven Lady Shamrocks 56-50 at home on Monday, prevailing in overtime.
The game was back and forth the whole way and helped Sullivan snap a three-game losing skid.
Sullivan trailed by nine at the half, but engineered a second half comeback and outscored the Shamrocks 10-4 in the overtime period.
The Lady Eagles drew first blood on the game when Kylee McReynolds sailed in a layup, but it was all New Haven in the first.
Abby Peterson rocked back with another two points and Sullivan was up with a little over six minutes left in the first. New Haven answered back with seven unanswered points against Sullivan.
The Lady Shamrocks landed another three points and Head Coach Jordan Flora needed a time out to talk to his team at 4:22. Dakayla McClain netted a ball from the line out of the timeout.
The Lady Shamrocks scored again with Peterson answering with a 3-pointer with under a minute left.
Mackenzie Wilson nailed another trey for the Shamrocks, this time at the buzzer. New Haven led 16-8.
Intensity and defense stopped New Haven from breaking into double digits in the second quarter.
New Haven landed two free throws to begin the second. The Lady Shamrocks’ Head Coach Austin Peirick took a timeout with 4:50 left. Sullivan’s defense held the Lady Shamrocks for fitter seconds till Brenna Langenberg of New Haven netted a layup. McClain found herself at foul line with 2:45 remaining in the first half.
The two teams traded over 30 fouls as the half drew to a close. New Haven had 15 and Sullivan 16.
New Haven netted another layup and McClain answered back with a layup of her own. Sullivan hit a free throw with 50 seconds remaining and Molly Lohden landed a big 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Lady Eagles trailed 23-14 at the half.
The Lady Eagles seemed like a whole new team after the break. They made a 15-point gain in the third quarter.
New Haven called timeout when the clock had only ran 40 seconds. The Lady Shamrocks then landed a layup and Peterson answered back with an inside shot off the glass. Lohden landed a free throw and Emma Rohlfing of New Haven made a free throw with a little over five minutes remaining in the third. Peterson netted a free throw and Lohden launched another three pointer in and the score was 26-22 as Sullivan bridged the gap. The Lady Shamrocks answered back with a layup and Coach Flora took a timeout and 2:46 remained.
The new life shined and Peterson netted another two points and McClain followed with two more points. New Haven was only up by two and could feel the pressure as they travelled and caused an important turnover. Sullivan had the ball back and Lohden dished another huge 3-point shot and the score was 29-28.
New Haven was visibly shaken but scored the first points of the fourth. They decided to take a timeout and 5:35 remained in regular play. Peterson tied up the score at 31 with a free throw.
New Haven broke the tie and then McReynold flamed another three pointer and Sullivan took the lead back. Aubri Meyer of New Haven tied the game at 34 from the free throw line.
The ball was fumbled a bit with Lohden and McClain under the basket when the ball was passed to Delaney George on the outside of the three point line and she blasted a huge three pointer. Peterson netted another huge layup off the glass. The Lady Shamrocks answered back four more unanswered points before Lohden jammed a three point basket. New Haven made a layup and Sullivan was at the foul line again and a basket was scored. New Haven netted two free throws and McReynolds made tow free throws.
The Lady Shamrocks were only down by one before Peterson made another free throw for Sullivan. McReynolds made a big steal and Coach Flora took a time out and four seconds remained.
The score was 46-44 but New Haven scored and tied the game at the buzzer and the game went into overtime.
The same team that returned in the second half is what won the game. Peterson sailed a 3-pointer to draw first blood in overtime. Langenberg answered back with two free throws and stole the lead.
Sullivan took a timeout with 1:50 remaining.
McReynolds scored another big 3-pointer for Sullivan and Peterson finished with two more layups to secure Sullivan the win.
