Additional charges are being sought against Strube.
According to Sheriff Steven Pelton, deputies were conducting a DWI saturation in the Sullivan area. Around 10:45 p.m., a deputy initiated a traffic stop on Strube in the 800 block of Johanna Street in Oak Grove Village.
When contacting the driver, the deputy observed the driver appeared to be impaired by an unknown substance. The driver gave numerous false names and was exhibiting erratic behavior.
The deputy instructed the driver to exit the vehicle which he refused to comply, as the deputy opened the door to the vehicle, it was immediately pulled shut by the driver.
A physical altercation ensued between the driver and the deputy as the deputy was physically attempting to remove the driver from the vehicle.
At one point during the altercation, the driver sped away as the deputy's arm became entangled in the car. The deputy was able to break free. A vehicle pursuit was initiated and other deputies in the area joined the pursuit which traveled northbound on Highway 185 to Highway AF.
The vehicle continued fleeing northbound on Highway AF at a high rate of speed where it ultimately crashed on Ridge Road just north of Leuchtefield Road. The driver fled the scene on foot.
A Franklin County canine deputy was deployed in the area in an attempt to track the suspect. A short time later, deputies were contacted by a homeowner near the crash scene who advised an unidentified white male, entered her residence without permission and was hiding inside.
A perimeter was established around the residence and at one point the suspect was observed inside the residence and was positively identified as the driver of the vehicle involved in the pursuit. The Franklin County canine deputy released his canine partner into the residence in an attempt to locate Strube. The canine alerted to the basement area of the residence.
Deputies entered the residence and took Strube into custody.
